White House of the Rising Sun

The NY Times’ front page story this morning discloses more divisions within the already splintering administration, as Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, supported by Condoleezza Rice (not to mention that little Iraq War Study Group), strongly advocated closing the infamous US detention center at Guantánamo Bay. This would have been and still would be a super idea, which of course is why (hopefully soon to be ex-) A.G. Al, Bush and Cheney shot it right down (or in the face, if you prefer). Bush actually stated publicly that would like to see it shut down, as if it is entirely out of his control, but it is now being reported that Guantánamo will stay open at the very least until the end of this sorry excuse for a presidency.

Nevertheless, stories that continue to come out about the inner-turmoil taking place within the unfriendly confines of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue make me hopeful that perhaps the rather collectively inept Democrats will realize that the scent they smell is indeed blood and attack the way the majority of Americans want them to! They were not overwhelmingly elected last November because they won’t as bad as the do less than nothing GOP; they were elected because they promised to take action! So for the love of God, TAKE ACTION! Stand up to this jerk of a bully! We finally have him up against the ropes! Don’t let him play rope-a-dope for the next twenty months, rather be deciders yourselves!

With that being said, let us keep in mind that these are trying, desperate times for this faltering administration and desperation almost always equals danger. I have little doubt that Rove has a special black ops section in his playbook for situations just like these. He may never have thought that his Bush would hit the fan, but the whole lot of ‘em are going down in flames and they’re all just ruthless enough to make some of their previous stunts look like Childs play.

“A major diplomatic crisis between London and Teheran (sic?) erupted yesterday after 15 British sailors and Royal Marines… were seized at gunpoint by Iranian forces.”

If Fox News has not already jumped all over this story, do expect them to start trumpeting their war horns. Bush will have a golden opportunity (which he rarely, if ever misses) to start talking like a Texas cowboy and warn Ahmadinejad that if he doesn’t let those sailors go he’s gonna smoke ‘em out, or something to that effect. Bush will let Tony Blair do all the fancy, technical talking while he stands around trying to look tough in the background. Make no mistake about it though; this is exactly the kind of opportunity they need to try and take focus away from their other numerous disasters (apparently Britney making it out of rehab wasn’t as big a story they expected it to be). I am hoping against hope, however that the charade will be seen through, that all their maladies will be tied together and the White House of the Rising Sun will go entirely up in flames.
