draft

“A perfect storm of ignorance and enthusiasm,” a former C.I.A. official said regarding the circumstances surrounding the across the board approval of torture. There is no question this abomination will be looked back upon in the similar light as John Adam’s Alien/Sedition Act, Lincoln’s suspension of Habeas Corpus, Roosevelt’s Japanese internment camps, etc.

Pelosi insists that the lawmakers were told only that the C.I.A. believed the methods were legal – not that they were going to be used. Why the hell else would the legality of these methods be brought to question, then?! Porter Goss refutes Pelosi’s insistence: “We were briefed, and certainly understood what C.I.A. was doing… There was actually concern about whether the agency was doing enough.” In truly Alberto Gonzales fashion, Senator Bob Graham “did not recall ever being briefed on the methods”.
