“…in my view, two United States are better than one.” –Thomas Friedman re: the “US of Europe”
That pretty much sums up Friedman’s world view, after all, America is so awesome and such a model for democracy. He goes on to lament that if the EU were to fracture, “it will affect everything from how many exports America has… to how many allies America has in the next war.” Oh, really, Tom?! Already looking forward to the next American debacle, boondoggle of militaristic might, are we? As Matt Taibbi once so awesomely put it, someone take away Tom Friedman’s laptop before he uses it to write one more word. This is why I generally do not read Friedman’s column but I suppose it’s good to be reminded on occasion of just why I loathe the bastard. “Sitting in a rooftop restaurant with a view of the Acropolis…” It’s beginnings of paragraphs like these that really make me want to strangle this guy; essentially what he’s saying is, my life as a roving New York Times columnist is the bee’s knees, man. Don’t YOU wish you were having lunch with the Greek president?!
