I keep hearing the argument made that conservatives who vote against what’s in their best financial interests (i.e. voting for Democrats) do so because they believe it will one day be them who will benefit from Republicans’ policies (i.e. they will be the wealthy ones).  This makes sense perhaps more on a subconscious level, as I don’t believe most people are capable of such deep and honest political self-examination.  I presume the tacit implication here is that these people are simply delusional and logic/reasoning need not apply when pertaining their electoral choices.  Republicans therefore are wont to exploit this reality gap, and their voters are more than willing to go along with the ongoing charade that the GOP is some apotheosis of conservative, Christian, “real” Americans.
