I started writing this a few days ago, so do forgive me for my tardiness!
I suppose it is not such a bad thing after all that the US has gone so far out of its way to preserve and sustain the Israeli state, for at this point in time we should be looking to them regarding how to properly execute a democratic state.
Case in point: Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, rushes head on into a clash with Hezbollah militants last summer and is likewise accused of badly mishandling this brief, yet diplomatically damaging war. Sound at all familiar? At least their war was a relatively short one.
So apparently in real democracies, if your [in our case (s)]elected leader screws up so horribly in conducting a war, an investigation must be carried out in order to find out what exactly went wrong; the citizens, but more importantly their elected officials will not whisper about the possibility, but demand that the leader in question resign or at the very, very least be held responsible!
That’s obviously one helluva run-on sentence, but I think it gets the point across... Maybe 'accountability' has a more significant meaning when translated into Hebrew.
