More sophomoric antics by the Bush administration; seems impossible (as my grandfather-in-law might say)!
The White House announces last week that chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Peter Pace, will not be reappointed to his post for a second term. To most this would indicate that General Pace did not do a particularly good job, for if he did he would likely still be the chairman, although we all know how this administration feels about the application of logic.
Enter Senate majority leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), who essentially draws the same conclusion and tosses in an insult or two: “…in my opinion, [General Pace] was never as candid as he should have been about the conduct and progress of this war.” Reid even shouts out General David Petraeus (lead commander in Iraq) calling into question how honest his report to congress will be regarding the “surge” in Iraq.
Now the White House appreciates it none too much when someone, much less a bleeding-heart liberal, points out the painfully obvious. So what ALWAYS happens whenever a democrat attempts a constructive discussion regarding our military forces? “You’re not supporting the troops!!!”
“In a time of war,” it’s really more of an occupation than a war, Mr. (White House spokesman Tony) Snow, but go on; “for a leader of a party that says it supports the military, it seems outrageous to be issuing slanders toward the chairman of the Joint Chiefs and also the man that is responsible for the bulk of military operations in Iraq.”
Tony, you unoriginal bastard! Yes, how DARE we try and discuss what is going and has gone wrong in Iraq! After all, if we don’t talk about it, then no one will suspect that anything IS going wrong over there, right?
Wrong. This occupation continues to be an unmitigated disaster and this administration is too yellow to have public discourse over it. I know most people in this country could really give a hoot about anything of real importance, but it would be nice to have a White House spokesman and the evil administration he represents that doesn’t treat the public as utter and total morons. There are still a few of us who do care about the abhorrent state of this nation as well as the fate of thousands of US troops and innocent Iraqi citizens overseas.
Finally, if we can’t even discuss this current situation in Iraq, why in the world would it be all right to even begin discussing dropping the “Q” and adding a “N”…

Get Over It
This just in: Harry Reid has turned his back on the troops!
But seriously (?), Senator Reid should really know better than to be a realist regarding Iraq, because in reality – this war is lost! Only in GOP-fantasy land is the USA still number one, second to none, rah rah sis boom bah, etc. etc., which of course would be the ones critical of said statement.
“I can’t begin to imagine how our troops in the field, who are risking their lives every day, are going to react when they get back to base and hear that the Democrat leader of the United States Senate has declared the war is lost,” said Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky.

Alright then, Senator McConnell, if you can’t imagine how our troops would react to Sen. Reid’s statement, why don’t you go over to Iraq, get some shoddy body armor, maybe score yourself a weapon, get only half the training you really need to be in combat and then tell us your reaction.
Sure, there will be a considerable number of soldiers who want to fight to the bitter end, because that’s what they’re trained to do (if they got full training to begin with). But there will likewise be a considerable number (perhaps an ever greater one) that knows and has known for some time now that this is truly a hopeless situation and that a resolution can only take place ‘through political, economic, and diplomatic means,’ (as Reid says he told President G.I. Bush).
Honestly, how good of a situation can it be over there if our troops are currently in the process of building a three-mile wall to protect a Sunni enclave in Baghdad from surrounding Shiite neighborhoods?

Building walls is never an indication of a good situation, that is unless you’re in a highly psychedelic British rock group…
