He shouldn’t have done it… No, unlike certain presidential spokespeople (who will go unnamed) I do not fault President Jimmy for the shot he took at President Georgie; I fault him for trying to take it back! Carter was merely speaking what has been on the mind of almost anyone in the western world, but heaven forbid we should hurt our commander in chief’s feelings! Come on, man! It’s called ‘constructive criticism’! Carter’s former communications aide, Gerald Rafshoon, has the right idea: “I’ve never been prouder of him.” But what does Jimmy do? Go on the Today show and claim his remarks were “careless or misinterpreted” and that he was “not talking personally about any president.” Now I love Jimmy Carter and all, but I guess once a politician, always a politician; I guess I just thought he had outgrown that.
