I would argue that the absurdity that is/was the Shirley Sherrod fiasco is yet another example of what happens when the president is so far removed from the battlefield and so dependent upon his field commanders to make the decisions for him. Those who advise him are and have been so entrenched in beltway bullshit that they are apparently no longer capable of distinguishing between what is contrived and what is real, and this is a very serious problem when you are charged with running an entire goddamn country. The issue of not being able to stand up to Fox News and the right en masse is a problem, but the bigger issue is how all this ado detracts from what should be the more pressing issue-the secret government documented by the Washington Post’s three-part series. Apparently pressure is being placed on the pentagon to commence cost-cutting measures, which is obviously long overdue, but what of all these so-called intelligence agencies that no one seems to be able to pinpoint exactly how many there are and how many employees they consist of.
