I find it truly amazing that the politics in this country are such that with our economy in the anemic state it currently finds itself, the current debate is over just how much and for whom we should be reducing taxes. And by we, I mean the officials we technically elected to represent us in congress. Now I’m no politician, much less an economist, but don’t local and federal governments need to generate cash in any way possible at these dire straits? I’m also not convinced that said politicians are so afraid of the electorate that they believe a vote to raise taxes will necessarily eliminate any chance they might have at being re-elected. No one likes paying taxes. Ben Franklin of course famously said the only constants in life are death and taxes. MCA less famously rapped, “Come on party people, share up your stacks,” ‘party people’ meaning the rich and ‘stacks’ referring to stacks of money. That sounds about right to me, but it also explains why tax cuts vs. hikes are now the vogue topic in D.C. We can’t be pissing off the almighty plutocrats now, can we? The electorate may be the ones voting, but we are clearly no match for the dollar bills that bear the face of the previously mentioned individual (not MCA-that would be pretty awesome, though).
